Gasification is a process that converts carbon-based materials—such as coal, biomass, municipal waste, or natural gas liquids—into a combustible gas mixture called syngas (synthetic gas).
The process works by heating the material at very high temperatures with a limited amount of oxygen or steam, so the material does not fully burn. Instead of complete combustion, the feedstock breaks down chemically into gases.
